Auto parts molding is a specialized injection moulding process dedicated to manufacturing high-precision plastic components used in the automotive industry. Clamping:
The process begins by securing the mould halves in place with a powerful clamping unit. In automotive applications, moulds are typically large and complex, requiring high clamping forces to prevent material leakage and ensure dimensional consistency. Proper alignment and sealing are critical to avoid defects in the final part.
Injection:
Thermoplastic pellets, such as ABS, PP, or PA66 (often reinforced with glass fiber), are introduced into the injection moulding machine via a hopper. These materials are selected for their thermal resistance, impact strength, and chemical stability. Inside the barrel, the pellets are melted and injected into the mould under high pressure—often between 80–150 MPa—filling the cavity with precision. The injection speed and pressure are optimized to reduce warpage and internal stress.
Cooling:
Once the mould is filled, the part is allowed to cool and solidify within the mould. In automotive applications, especially for parts like bumpers, dashboards, or under-the-hood components, uniform cooling is vital to maintain strength and dimensional accuracy. Cooling channels are strategically designed to speed up cycle times while reducing internal stresses and deformation.
Ejection:
After cooling, the mould opens and the finished part is ejected using ejector pins or plates. Auto parts often feature complex geometries, so ejection systems must be carefully designed to avoid damaging the component. Once ejected, the mould is closed again for the next cycle.
