Medical stent injection mold technology has very high technical requirements

1. Core design challenges and solutions

Microstructure precision control

Feature size: Vascular stent wall thickness ≤ 0.1mm, the mold needs to be processed at the nano level (tolerance ± 2μm), and a multi-axis linkage wire-cut machine tool (precision 0.005mm) is used to carve the microporous structure.

Parting surface design: For the stent grid hollowing, a 3D parting surface + slider linkage mechanism is used, and the parting line offset is < 0.01mm to avoid burrs affecting blood compatibility.

Biological material adaptability

High temperature material response: PEEK injection molding requires a mold temperature of 180-220℃, and the mold steel is made of tungsten-molybdenum alloy (such as YXR33, temperature resistance > 350℃), and the cooling water channel uses a titanium alloy 3D conformal pipe (cooling efficiency increased by 40%).

Degradable material processing: PLA/PGA materials are easy to hydrolyze, and the mold surface is coated with diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating to reduce the friction coefficient (μ≤0.1) and reduce the risk of material degradation


2. Key technologies for mold manufacturing

Cavity processing: five-axis ultra-precision milling + micro-hole EDM (electrode diameter 0.03mm

Exhaust system: laser-etched honeycomb micro-exhaust groove (depth 5-8μm)

Main mold frame: SUS420J2 stainless steel (HRC52-54), FDA biocompatibility certification;

Intelligent process monitoring

The mold is embedded with an optical fiber sensor (temperature resistance 300℃), real-time monitoring of melt pressure (accuracy ±0.1MPa) and temperature (±0.5℃), and the data is directly connected to the MES system to automatically optimize parameters.

Cleanliness guarantee

Assembly environment: ISO Class 5 Clean workshop (particles ≤ 3,520/m³), surface residue of mold after ultrasonic cleaning < 0.1mg/m².


4. Verification and compliance system

Performance verification standard

Mechanical test: simulated stent expansion test (pressure 20MPa, 100,000 cycles), mold structure deformation < 0.005mm;

Biosafety: passed ISO 10993-1 cytotoxicity test, no heavy metal precipitation on the mold surface (lead content < 0.001μg/cm²).

Production qualification requirements

The mold factory must have ISO 13485:2025 certification, each mold generates a unique digital twin, and the entire life cycle data is stored on the blockchain

Ultra-high precision design standards

Micron-level structure control

Wall thickness and tolerance: Cardiovascular stent wall thickness ≤ 0.1mm, mold cavity tolerance must be controlled within ±2μm, and a five-axis ultra-precision machine tool (precision 0.005mm) to process microporous structure.

Parting surface optimization: In view of the hollowing characteristics of the stent grid, 3D curved parting + slider linkage mechanism is adopted, and the parting line offset error is ≤0.01mm to avoid burrs affecting blood compatibility.

Intelligent temperature control system

Conformal cooling water channel: 3D printed titanium alloy embedded water channel (diameter 0.8-1.2mm), cooling efficiency is increased by 40%, and mold temperature fluctuation is controlled at ±0.5℃ (PEEK material injection molding requires mold temperature 200±5℃).

Partition temperature control: 16 sets of micro thermocouples are embedded in the mold to adjust the temperature gradient of key parts of the stent (such as connection points) in real time to prevent stress concentration from causing fracture.

Clean manufacturing environment

Workshop standard: ISO Class 5 clean room (particles ≤3,520/m³), the entire mold assembly process is operated in a nitrogen protection box, and the surface residue is <0.1mg/m².

Cleaning process: Plasma cleaning + supercritical CO₂ drying are used to eliminate organic pollutants and microbial residues.

Material safety certification

Mold steel has passed the ISO 10993-1 biocompatibility test, and the amount of heavy metal precipitation (such as nickel and chromium) is less than 0.001μg/cm²;

Lubricant uses medical grade polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), which complies with FDA 21 CFR 177.1550 standards

A: Mold Payment: 40% deposit by T/T in advance, 30% second mold payment before sending out the first trial samples, 30% mold balance after you agree the final samples.

B:Production Payment: 50% deposit in advance, 50% before sending out the final goods.
