Ejector System Design: Plan the position and number of ejector pins or push plates to ensure smooth, uniform, and deformation-free ejection of large, deep-cavity parts.


Venting System Design: Create venting slots at weld lines and the final filling area to prevent trapped air from causing defects such as burning and underfill.


Phase Two: Mold Design and Processing (Core Manufacturing)

Mold Design:


Fully 3D mold design is performed using advanced 3D software such as UG, Pro/E (Creo), and CATIA.


Production of detailed part drawings, assembly drawings, wire-cut drawings, electrode diagrams, etc.


Material Preparation:


Mold Base: Select a large standard mold base (such as LKM mold base) to ensure rigidity and stability.


Mold Core/Cavity: Use high-performance mold steels such as P20, 718H, and S136 (for excellent rust resistance) and pre-harden them to ensure long life.


Precision Machining:


CNC Milling: Uses a large gantry CNC machine tool to perform rough and fine machining of the mold base and core, forming the main cavities and cores.


Deep Hole Drilling: Processes complex cooling channels.


Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM): Uses copper electrodes to perform electrical discharge machining on corners, ribs, and logos that are difficult to machine using CNC.


Wire Cutting Machine (WEDM): Used to machine precision straight-walled parts such as inserts and sliders.


Polishing/Texturing: Polishes the cavity surface to a mirror finish; or performs texturing (sunburst) to achieve a matte or leather-like texture on the shopping basket surface.


Phase 3: Mold Assembly, Mold Trial, and Acceptance (T0 Mold Trial)

Mold Assembly (Fitting):


Technicians assemble all processed parts, including sliders, lifters, ejectors, and hot runner systems, and check for clearances and smooth movement.


Mold Trial:


The mold is hoisted onto a large injection molding machine with a capacity of over 1,000 tons.


Connect the hot runner temperature control box and cooling water pipes.


Begin debugging injection molding process parameters: injection speed, pressure, holding pressure, screw position, cooling time, etc.


Test mold sample evaluation:


Dimensional inspection: Use a 3D measuring instrument to check whether key dimensions conform to the drawings.


Appearance inspection: Check for defects such as shrinkage, flash, air marks, weld marks, missing material, and white top.


Functional testing: Perform load tests, stacking tests, drop tests, etc.


Submit the sample to the customer for approval.


Mold modification and optimization:


Based on the test mold results and customer feedback, make minor adjustments to the mold (such as adjusting gate size, modifying venting, adjusting polishing, etc.) until the sample is fully qualified.


Phase 4: Mass Production and Delivery

Small-batch trial production: After the process parameters stabilize, conduct small-batch production with continuous quality monitoring.


Mass production: The mold is put into continuous production 24 hours a day. Operators are required to conduct regular quality checks.


Packaging and Delivery: The shopping baskets are packaged as required (typically bagged and stacked) and delivered to the customer.


Phase 5: Mold Maintenance and Care

Regular mold maintenance is performed: cleaning the cavity, rust prevention, checking for wear on moving parts, and replacing consumable parts to extend the mold life. (A good shopping basket mold typically lasts for over 500,000 to 1,000,000 cycles).
